I had been looking forward to Leo’s sports portrait session since I heard the details of what his mother had in mind—fencing portraits!  This meant heading to his fencing club, Mid-South Fencers’ Club in Durham for his portrait session.  The fencing club itself made for a great background to take portraits as it had lot’s of character (note to self, potential location for some future Durham senior portait sessions).  Like I would have been at his age (or even now), Leo was a little uneasy about having his portrait made at first, but he soon warmed up and did a great job.  He even taught me a little about fencing, for example, the fencer’s sword isn’t actually called a sword—it’s a sabre. I really enjoyed documenting Leo’s incredible talent, which recently he earned some national points at a tournament with! Check out the images from his portrait session below!

Raleigh Senior Portrait Photographer | Quinn

Quinn’s senior portrait session was a lot of fun!  We had a blast and came away with some great senior portrait photos.  I’ve said it before, some seniors are just naturals infront of the camera and when they are like Quinn, it makes my job as a senior portrait photographer easy!

Our first appointment for Olivia’s senior portraits got delayed because of some hurricane or tropical storm that decided to send Durham a lot of rain and wind.  No matter, the second day we picked out turned out to be a beautiful day for a senior portrait session.  With mom and sister along for the ride, Olivia had a nice team helping her out at Duke Gardens.  She did a wonderful job and we came away with some stunning senior portraits!

Gaurav is also another young adult I’ve come to know for a few years and also always very polite when I see him.  I was happy to be his senior portrait photographer!   Not only did we get some great senior portraits, but he also gave me fantasy football advice which I desperately needed!

Okay, last high school senior portrait post for the day!  I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Allison for a few years now and she is always very kind and respectful when I see her.  She is also an incredible athlete!  She did an amazing job during her senior portrait session.

As a fellow basketball player, it was easy for me to relate to AJ right away… also I could tell he was about as excited to get his senior portraits done as I was when I was a high school senior looking for a senior portrait photographer!  That being said, by the end of the senior portrat session, I’m pretty sure he enjoyed it!  Or in his words, “it wasn’t so bad” which I think is a win for most guys getting senior photos!

So yeah, I feel a little behind on my senior portrait photographer blog posts! Between starting up college and professional sports photography again, senior portraits, school photography and guiding photo tours of Japan, the blog got placed on the back burner for a bit! There are still quite a few senior portraits to be blogged… First up is Connor. A very sweet girl that was very confident in front of the camera and it showed on her great senior portraits!

Portraits of Shanda | Raleigh Portrait Photographer

I was lucky enough to meet Shanda through Models for Charity, an awesome local organization here in Raleigh, NC  “of professional men and women in the Triangle who raise money for local charities through modeling.”  Back in April, I organized the First Friday Raffle and Auction for Japan, which would have been a failure without the help of so many, but I was especially lucky to have the support of Models for Charity.  One of the beautiful models MFC connected me with was Shanda.  She did an awesome job of helping and advising me on various things throughout the evening and kept me from going crazy.  I can’t thank both Models for Charity in Raleigh and Shanda enough for their help, support and guidance.

After being away in Alaska for the past few weeks, I’m trying to play catch up, so we got two blog posts today! Ellyse’s senior photography session was another incredible one! At first, I felt she was a little shy during her senior portrait session, but Ellyse quickly warmed up and let her personality shine in all her photos! She was brave and was the first high school senior I have photographed that elected not to look at any of the photos on the back of my camera until after we finished taking the senior portraits… When finally seeing her senior photographs, her reaction was priceless! Once again another awesome senior portrait session in Raleigh and another wonderful family! There is still time to get your 2011 Senior Portraits by Evan Pike Photography. Just contact me to schedule your senior session!

What do Ligon Middle School, Chubby’s Tacos, All Saints Chapel and Sarah & Nick’s Wedding have in Common?

    May 27 | Evan | 1 Comment |

For many reasons, all the weddings I have photographed have been special. This last wedding I photographed for Andrew Bryant Photography at The All Saints Chapel, in downtown Raleigh, was no exception. I could go on and tell you about how this wedding was super original, from the Krispy Kreme donunt wedding cake, to the hokey pokey mother/son dance and so on and of course all the original details made this wedding special for me, but this one goes a little further. Even though Sarah and Nick are die hard NC State fans (it’s possible that the phrase ‘die hard’ might be an understatement), photographing their wedding was extra special for me because I have known Sarah since middle school, which I am sorry to say, at this point in my life, knowing somebody since middle school means I have known them for more than half of my life (how do we slow this train down btw?). To have known her for so long made this wedding extra rewarding for me to photograph. Seeing a friend get married is beautiful, but to play a part in preserving the memories from of one of the most important days of their life is humbling and rewarding beyond words. Sarah, I am so happy for you, Nick and your families and looking forward to our future gatherings at Chubby’s Tacos… as old married couples! I know you will enjoy these handful of photographs from your wedding!

    Senior Portrait Photography | Olivia

    Jan 25 | Evan | No Comments |

I was contacted by Olivia’s mom with an all too familiar story.  Olivia had her senior portraits done by one of the large national photography studios recommended to them by their school and was not satisfied with the cookie cutter results.  So while it was a little later than usual to shoot senior portraits, we braved the cold, December weather  and I really enjoyed my last high school senior portrait session of 2009.  Olivia and her family were nice enough to welcome me into their lovely home and we were able to come away with some great shots!  Thanks again Olivia and hope the rest of your senior year is enjoyable and memorable!

Katja senior portrait session was such a blast! She was a natural in front of the camera and made my job really easy! There are some people, for whatever reason, just don’t feel comfortable in front of the camera– like me for example. Katja was totally the opposite and every photo seemed to come out great. I am so thankful for getting this opportunity and previous ones to get to know some students from my former school. Yay! Thanks again to Katja and her wonderful family!
