For Sarah’s senior portrait session, she wanted to incorporate two of her favorite pastimes—playing soccer and playing her ukulele. To do so, we met at her school in Cary and shot a few traditional portraits in front of the beautiful buildings and a few more on the soccer field nearby. Then we moved to the incredible Umstead Hotel where we strolled along the path near the pond, took a few more portraits, and even got our own little ukulele show from her! She’s quite talented! For Rebecca’s portrait session, we met at a lovely little park in Cary and had such a great time! I set up the session as a way to train a new assistant, and Rebecca was the perfect model for the job. For Matthew’s senior portrait session, we actually had a split session due to a yearbook deadline and an injury he experienced playing baseball. For the first session, we met at my studio and had a great time even though we had to try to hide one of his arms because of the injury. For the second session, we met at a park a few months later, and those images turned out great too, especially since all of the leaves were starting to change! For Jillian’s first birthday, I talked her mother into a family portrait session that included something I wanted to try… a “cake smash!” They had a beautiful and even more delicious cake made by Trilogy Edibles. It was so cute how Jillian’s face lit up with excitement as soon as she saw that small pink cake just for her, and it was even cuter when she smeared it all over her little face! I had previously met Alex while photographing Ian’s Bar Mitzvah and thought she would be perfect to collaborate with to help prepare my assistant for senior portrait season. The portrait session went great as she was a natural behind the camera and my assistant could learn what I would need for senior portrait sessions! It seemed like every image I took of her was incredible so it was hard to choose our favorites. To do so, he chose to have his senior portrait session at the school and baseball field where he spent so much of his time in Cary. Zack is an extremely talented athlete, but did great modeling. Instead of having two separate senior portrait sessions, Maggie and Katie chose to share the senior portrait experience as sisters at a beautiful park in Raleigh. They really enjoyed having their senior portrait session together and kept me on my toes photographing one as the other changed in to the next outfit.
