Not only a double senior portrait blog post day, but a double Alex senior portrait post day! For those of you that have followed my blog for a few years now, perhaps remember a certain Wicked Bat Mizvah I photographed, where yes, Alex was the star of the celebration! It’s been a wonderful getting to know Alex and her family over the past few years and exciting to see her reach this next milestone!
Just like her bat mitzvah, Alex handled her senior portraits with ease, grace and enthusiasm! As to be expected, she was completely comfortable in front of the camera and we had a lot of fun during the senior portrait session in Cary! It’s been a pleasure watching Alex grow up and can’t wait to see what she does in the years to come. Hard to believe that another senior class will be graduating in a few weeks! I’m a little embarrassed that I haven’t posted sooner about the 2015 senior class of 2015, but the good news is that I’ve had a busy (good busy) year. Besides helping visitors and photographers on multiple trips to Japan, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, family celebrations, school and sports photography and so on, I’ve also started working for USA Today Sports Images. Overall a great year and ready to start taking senior portraits for the class of 2016!
Sorry to hijack Alex’s senior portrait post with the update, but knowing how easy going Alex is, I don’t think he will mind! Alex was really comfortable during his senior portrait session, which for guys, isn’t always the case! … Especially since Alex’s family came along so that we could take a few family portraits as well after we had enough senior portraits of him. It’s always fun to have extra friends and family come along for senior portrait sessions, and while Alex handled it great, but sometimes it can be a case of “too many cooks in the kitchen” with all the opinions going around!

For Sarah’s senior portrait session, she wanted to incorporate two of her favorite pastimes—playing soccer and playing her ukulele. To do so, we met at her school in Cary and shot a few traditional portraits in front of the beautiful buildings and a few more on the soccer field nearby. Then we moved to the incredible Umstead Hotel where we strolled along the path near the pond, took a few more portraits, and even got our own little ukulele show from her! She’s quite talented! Despite a particularly hot day, the whole family came out for Matt’s senior portrait session in Cary. It was obvious from the beginning that sense of humor was a big part of family dynamics and I think it really helped to get some great senior portraits of Matt. We also were kept laughing during his senior portrait session, which is always a lot of fun! We even had time to take a a family photo or two at the end which is always nice to do before the high school seniors head off to university in who knows where!

Even though Hunter attends one of my own arch rivals from my high school days when I was a senior (go Chargers!), I was still happy to take his senior portraits in Raleigh. I do have to admit though, I was glad he didn’t show up in a bunch of green and white! In all seriousness though, Hunter was very relaxed in front of the camera which really helped to make his senior portraits come out great. A lot of times I get asked where are the best locations for senior portraits and I certainly have my goto locations for senior sessions, but Hunter’s mom had a great idea to have his senior portraits made at some locations where she took him when he was much younger. Great idea for senior portraits as it adds even more personal meaning to the portraits of your high school senior!

We had a lot of fun during Carrie’s senior portrait session in Raleigh. She was really easy going which lead to comfortable and confident senior portraits. We also had nice weather and the location picked out for senior session was not crowded at all which always is a plus! Carrie also had some creative ideas and a good idea of what she wanted for her portraits, something not all seniors are prepared for.

For Matthew’s senior portrait session, we actually had a split session due to a yearbook deadline and an injury he experienced playing baseball. For the first session, we met at my studio and had a great time even though we had to try to hide one of his arms because of the injury. For the second session, we met at a park a few months later, and those images turned out great too, especially since all of the leaves were starting to change! Not to mention, everyone appreciated having the senior portrait session when the weather was a little cooler! Check out the images from his senior portrait session below!

For senior portrait sessions, I usually suggest that seniors bring along mom or another close family member to help with outfits and to hold the iPad to instantly see the photos I’m taking…. But because his mom was traveling internationally, he decided to rock his senior portrait session on his own, and he did a great job!
